My name’s Kitty Pryse-Jones, and I lead the team at MovingAhead. As a conveyancing practice we specialise in property matters in England and Wales; that’s the legal side of selling, buying and remortgaging property. We’ve also a very unusual history – which makes us a little unique.

How we started

In 1989, the principal of the legal practice that I was working for died.

I had worked with him for over 10 years, initially as his junior secretary, then whilst dealing with my own portfolio of clients within the practice. Later I became the managing conveyancer at his Sawbridgeworth office.

One morning, I received a call from the owner’s wife – he’d suddenly died of a heart attack. We were all devastated.

Remarkably, the practice had been most generously left to me in his will.

Learning to fly

However, there was a problem – I’d been too busy handling my client cases to consider qualifying as a conveyancer! So a former (licensed) colleague assumed legal responsibility for the practice, while I managed the day-to-day case files.

The following three years were probably some of the hardest of my life - running a busy conveyancing practice by day, and studying by night.

All systems go

Fortunately, my many years of practical experience counted for something - in June 1996 I passed all the examinations at first attempt, finally gaining my coveted practising licence.

In April 1998, I finally acquired full control of the Sawbridgeworth practice.

Going online

The launch of MovingAhead, our advanced online conveyancing website, was a leap forward for us.

New functions – such as an auto email notification facility – have saved our clients and agents worry and wait. We use the web to enhance (not replace) our service to clients. And we’re proud that many clients say our standard of service is "second to none".

Today the practice is known as MovingAhead, reflecting the fact that many of our clients make extensive use of our online conveyancing website to stay informed and MovingAhead!
